Overview and Importance of Prominence, Proximity & Keyword Density

Do You Know?

§  Keyword Prominence – Keyword prominence is the location or placement of a given keyword in a web page. The higher the position of a keyword in the page, the more prominent it is which means that search engines give more weight to that particular term. It is best to include your keywords in the first paragraph of the content of your site. This concept also applies to the location of important keywords within individual HTML tags, such as heading tags, title tags, or hyperlink text.

§  Keyword Proximity – Keyword proximity is the combination of the density of a keyword and the prominence. So proximity looks at the location of the keyword in the sentence and how often it's being used in that sentence and also takes into account the distance between them.
§  Keyword Density: Keyword density is the percentage of times a keyword or phrase appears on a web page compared to the total number of words on the page. In the context of search engine optimization keyword density can be used as a factor in determining whether a web page is relevant to a specified keyword or keyword phrase. From Wikipedia
1.     Importance of keyword proximity:
Keyword proximity importance lies in the fact that if it is used properly, it will rank the webpage in a higher position. One of the most important factors in determining the position of SERP is the keyword proximity in title tag. You should also be original in using the keyword proximity as it will help to optimize the webpage.
2.    Importance of Keyword Density:
People say that a % of keywords should be used but sometimes that seems to be irrelevant. I read somewhere that one should write for readers keeping search engines in mind and not for search engines keeping readers in mind. IF you use keywords tool then you will not be bothered about keyword density cause sometimes when you bother too much about it you get into keyword stuffing. You try to stuff your main keyword which makes your blog look keyword spammer.

In the example of Top Findings below you can see more detail, such as how far from the beginning keywords are or how many times keywords are used in order – all against the backdrop of actual completion for the keyword provided.
